April Johnson manages the Training Team for Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations, where she works to advance equity throughout Los Angeles County by empowering communities to collaborate across boundaries of difference. Her work empowers communities to bridge differences by challenging inequities and actively promote a human rights culture. Through her role, April designs and delivers customized training programs for government personnel, community partners, educators, social service specialists, criminal justice professionals, and youth groups.

April specializes in a range of training topics, including conflict resolution, bias awareness, valuing diversity, navigating challenging conversations, and fostering organizational cultures that promote equity. Since joining the Commission in 2020, she has been at the forefront of driving meaningful change through education and collaboration.

Mr. Oscar Hernandez
Senior Human Relations Consultant
Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations

Oscar Hernandez (he/him/he’s/el) serves as a Senior Human Relations Consultant with the County of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission. His work includes supporting the design and delivery of customized training to groups such as community interventionists, housing managers, criminal justice professionals, government workers, young adults, and human services volunteers. 

He helps facilitate training on a variety of topics, including cultural competence; diversity, equity, and inclusion; managing the influence of bias; what prejudice is, how it works, and what we can do about it; constructive candid conversations; the history of racism and “race”; positive conflict resolution; building and maintaining trust; leadership; collaboration; assessing equity impact of policies and practices; and cultivating organizational culture to advance equity. Oscar is the son of a Salvadoran immigrant single mother who taught Oscar the values of social justice, equity, and respect for all human beings. 

Oscar also is a part time Business Administration professor teaching Communications, Accounting, Business Applications and Statistics. Oscar possesses a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s in public administration from California State University Northridge. Oscar is passionate about education and making an impact on the community as a social service practitioner.
